    Optimization of Catamaran Demihull Form in Early Stages of the Design Process

    The amounts of research about catamaran have generated a practical formula to simplify the calculations of catamaran resistance. Ship designer will calculate the predictions of catamaran resistance rapidly. The aim of this research is focused to search the optimal demihull form where the hull form has the lowest resistance compared to other hull form models with the same displacement. To generate the different hull form, the initial hull form (parent hull) is transformed so that become some models by changing the parameter of coefficient block (Cb) in range ±10% with Lwl, T, H, volume and displacement are constant. The transformed hull form are calculated their total resistance from Froude number (Fr) 0,2 to 0,65 with spacing hull to length ratio (S/L) 0,2 to 0,4. The results of calculation show that the optimal demihull form is Model 4 where the initial hull form Cb +5%. The model has the lowest resistance compared to other models. The comparisons of resistance Model 4 with the configurations of S/L shows that the lowest resistance is S/L 0,4, so that the optimal demihull form is Model 4 with S/L 0,4

    Sustainable Cotton Production through Skill Development among Farmers: Evidence from Khairpur District of Sindh, Pakistan

    This study on farmers’ training in environment friendly production practices for cotton crop was conducted in the Khairpur district of Sindh province. Data used in this study comprises baseline and post IPM Farmer Field School (FFS) impact surveys conducted during 2001 and 2003 respectively. The programme impacts were estimated on gross margins and changes in farmers’ attitude towards environment and biodiversity. The effect of training on social recognition of farmers, their experimentations abilities, and decision making skills were also examined. Beside single difference comparisons of change in production practices between trained and non-trained farmers, the difference in difference (DD) method was also used for comparisons among FFS farmers, exposed farmers and un-exposed farmers from control villages. The stochastic production frontier model incorporating inefficiency effects is also estimated to analyze the impact of farmers’ training (through FFS) on productivity and efficiency at cotton farms in the study area. Results show better cotton yield and reduction in cost of pesticides and fertilizer inputs enabled FFS farmers to fetch significantly higher gross margins (US391/ha)thannonFFS(US 391/ha) than non-FFS (US 151/ha) and Control farms (US$ 25/ha). The total application of pesticide chemicals was largely reduced (44%) on FFS farms. The cost of inefficiency at FFS farms was lower (23.71%) as compared to those on non-FFS farms (30.50%) which implies that FFS farmers were able to maintain higher level of technical efficiency. It is concluded that the FFS approach is not only cost efficient but also improves farm level technical efficiency. Information generated through Agro-ecosystem analysis on pest and predator dynamics helps farmers to understand pest-predator interaction to allow nature to work with lesser or most appropriate interventions. A well-planned technical backup support mechanism is recommended to be evolved through integrating research system into farmer-led experimentation. The Programme achievements show that FFS approach in Pakistan has furthered from only crop management to systems management and community development approach and should be supported further to enter into mass scale expansion state.Cotton Production; Skill Development; Production Frontier; Efficiency; Pakistan

    Moslems all over the world need a calendar which can be used Internationally. In order to realize such a noble need, several efforts have been made by two popular approaches, namely hisab and rukyat in establishing Islamic calendar. In the context of International Islam, this trend has been followed up by efforts of uniting global Islamic calendar. This article aims at discussing advantages of uniting global Islamic calendar in terms of political issues. From the perspectives of Islamic political science (siyasah) it can be point out that the existence of global Islamic calendar will convince the world concerning with the unity and solidarity of Islamic powers. Moslems countries will arrive at shared attitudes and responses toward the development of global issues, especially those concern with Islamic political purposes

    Artikel ini membahas mengenai perancangan arsitektur produk untuk produk Multiple Cutter, sebuah produk yang dirancang untuk membantu proses produksi pemotongan permen susu, dodol,, maupun produk sejenis. Saat ini telah dirancang konsep awal produk tersebut. Paper ini menjelaskan mengenai langkah yang penting dari fase pengembangan produk, yaitu penentuan arsitektur produk. Arsitektur produk ditentukan dengan menganalisis interaksi antara komponen fisik yang memenuhi fungsi dalam produk. Langkah pada penentuan arsitektur produk pada tulisan ini adalah: 1) menentukan schematic produk 2) menentukan cluster terhadap elemen yang ada di produk, dengan pertimbangan pengelompokkan berdasarkan integrasi geomteris, function sharing, kemampuan vendor, kesamaan teknologi desain atau produksi, pengelompokkan Perubahan, kemampuan mengakomodasi variasi, standarisasi, dan portability 3) membuat rough geometric layout dan 4) mengidentifikasi interaksi fundamental dan incidental.  Berdasarkan konsep awal produk, maka arsitektur dibuat dalam bentuk enam chunks, yaitu pegangan, mekanisme pengaturan posisi pegangan, mekanisme pemasangan pemotong, pemotong, mekanisme pengaturan posisi pemotong, dan struktur utama. Seluruh elemen dibuat dengan konsep modular dengan elemen ‘struktur utama\u27 sebagai interface utamanya. Elemen-elemen tersebut terintegrasi ke interface utama dengan model arsitektur bus-modular.     Protokol routing merupakan metode yang digunakan untuk menghubungkan dari router satu ke router yang lainnya, menyampaikan informasi dengan benar, memberikan jaminan layanan. Setiap protokol routing memiliki algoritma yang berbeda, pada penelitian ini dibahas tentang protokol routing yang bersifat distance vector dan hybrid routing, khusus penelitian ini akan dibahas tentang protokol routing yang bersifat proprietary.Skenario yang digunakan pada penelitian ini menggunakan komunikasi VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), dengan menggunakan 10 buah router, 16 host yang berkomunikasi satu dengan lainnya pada saat yang bersamaan, kemudian juga dilakukan scenario pemutusan jaringan untuk melihat cara protokol routing meng-update tabel routingnya, juga akan dilakukan perbandingan antara performansi antara IPv4 dan IPv6.Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan hasil protokol routing EIGRP dibandingkan dengan IGRP memiliki nilai performansi dari sisi konvergensi jaringan, jumlah hop, paket yang hilang (traffic dropped), delay paket dan throughput yang lebih baik

    Apart from government's role, it is necessary to implement the development program by participatory contribution of stakeholders which is among others from non-governmental organization (NGO). One of development programs implemented from national level up to village level through constellation of government institution and NGO is PIDRA. At village level, both constellations were represented by field technical assistant of government institution and facilitator of NGO to which it employed synergic activities with community. The implementation of PIDRA Program brought positive impact on community empowerment in terms of capacity building and institutional development. Hence, experimental experience of PIDRA Program is strategically implemented in other program sites based on participatory collaborative management

    Perbandingan Pengelolaan Risiko Kredit Perbankan Syariah dan Perbankan Konvensional

    This study aims to identify factors that can be used as indicators in reducing the incidence of creditrisk in sharia banking and conventional banking. The variables that become observations includebanking performance in each group and macroeconomic performance. The banking performancevariables include credit risk itself as measured by problem financing, growth in financing, growthin third party funds, and banking size. While macroeconomic variables include national income,interest rates, and inflation. Autoregressive and distributed lag methods are used to identify whichvariables can be used as indicators. The results showed that all identified factors can be an indicatorin the process of credit risk control both in sharia banking and conventional banking. Onlycredit growth in conventional banking alone can not be used as an indicator of credit risk control
